Women's Lives: Security and Law Across the Lifespan.
Main Article Content
Abstract
This scholarly examination traces women's sociological and legal journeys through consecutive life phases, from birth through advancing years. The work critically analyzes how discrimination based on gender manifests differently across developmental stages while tracing the legislative responses designed to counteract these inequalities. Drawing upon diverse intellectual traditions—anthropological scholarship, perspectives grounded in labor and class analysis, theoretical frameworks emphasizing power imbalances, empirical investigation, and poststructuralist thought—this exploration investigates how patriarchal traditions, class-based systems, and bureaucratic structures determine women's opportunities across generational boundaries. Through evaluation of landmark court decisions, concrete examples from lived experience, and statistical information gathered through systematic national research, the examination evaluates how effectively legal instruments such as prenatal diagnostic regulations and comparable statutes address critical concerns including gender-based abortion, underage marriage, intimate partner violence, and mistreatment of elderly individuals. The investigation also encompasses policy suggestions from state-level review bodies and academic investigators. Ultimately, the work advances knowledge regarding gendered jurisprudence in contemporary India and emphasizes how comprehensive, interconnected legal and community transformation remains essential to guarantee women's protection and human dignity throughout every chapter of life.
